Daniel's First Day of School

06/15/06

I just thought you all might like to know that Daniel's first day of school went very well. He didn't want to leave... he asked me if I could wait in the hallway until he was finished playing!
He wouldn't leave until I told him that he could come back the next day. Apparently, he thought it was a one-day kinda deal. He really likes his teachers and has made some new friends. Which is a big deal for him since, as you all know, he's been at home with me since he was born.
His teachers tell me that he is very well-behaved and is the most polite child they have in the class. He actually remembers to say "yes ma'am" and "no ma'am" and "please" and "thank you." I can't tell you how proud I am.
Yes, it's been a bit rough on me! While I am so excited for him I can't stand it, a part of me is sad as well. My baby is growing up! It's hard to just leave him (knowing he will be perfectly fine) with people I don't know all that well. Don't get me wrong... the school is fabulous. Super-sweet teachers and an awesome staff who simply love children. We felt right at home. It's just... well... he's my baby! :)
Dan went with me for support, or so he says. I think he just wanted to make certain I actually left Daniel at the school. I think he thought I might just change my mind and keep him home another year. Don't think the thought didn't cross my mind! No one will notice if we go play in the park every day and just pretend to go to school.... will they? Maybe we could just move to Australia... kids don't have to go to school there, do they? hehe you know I'm just kidding... I put on my big-girl panties and dealt with it. It was hard but I did it! :)
Anyway, he's happy... so I am happy. I am now marking my calendar for the various fund-raisers (did I mention the Krispy Kreme one? That's MY kind of fund-raiser!), and trike-a-thons, and hop-a-thons (whatever that is), and the Christmas Play and all those wonderful school parties they sucker the parents into helping with. Thing is... they didn't have to sucker me... I was first in line, waving my arms, yelling "pick me! pick me!" begging them to let me help.
"Cupcakes? I can do cupcakes! Brownies? I can do brownies! Sew costumes for the play? Er, well... uh... I can do brownies!" :)
Don't be surprised if I hit you all up to buy doughnuts or some such. I just hope they don't do one of those Christmas wrapping-paper fundraisers... you know the one I mean. If they do, something tells me we'll all be exchanging gifts that look a lot alike this year.
Thanks to everyone who called and posted comments for us. I read them all to him and he was thrilled that everyone remembered it was his first day. /hugs and kisses to you all! :)

We love you!
